SHOISE

My Role
Shoise was a company created by me and another designer (Matilda Maroti). We designed and fabricated experimental, handmade shoes that were exhibited worldwide, and used in photo shoots by various stylists in Sweden and abroad, giving us great deal of exposure in fashion
magazines and social media.
Concept/ Brand vision
Shoise was a way of trying to change the perceptions of what is, and what is not- when it comes to shoes. That’s why we were not so much a company as an initiative - the front lines. The ones always eager to make new and bold choices. We believed in exclusivity, aimed for perfection and feared simplicity. We put trust in pushing and sometimes crossing borders between art and fashion but most of all we believed in wanting more. When faced with a choice, who and what claims that you can not pick more alternatives. Shoise was a way of finding out. Condensing them all into a shape, a form, a shoe. An idea to explore the “and” instead of focusing on the “or”.
The collections
Shoise created two collections; Remotion and Reflection. In this portfolio I have chosen to show a larger part of the design process from the first collection Remotion and a more compressed selection from the second collection Refraction

COLLECTION REMOTION

Inspiration
Our starting point was a fantasy world on an island when we made this collection. We made the world as a collage with various territories that we used as an inspiration to further develop material, shapes and expressions.
Due to the island’s experimental “laboratory zone” and the industrial area on the island, new species and hybrids of existing species were developed, which are in full display on the shoes we created.

Design process
The aim was to use only recycled or environmentally friendly materials such as bamboo, vegetable tanned leather or industrial waste. We put a lot of effort into identifying them, rooting around on old car scooters and collecting waste from factories. All shoes were handmade. The design process started with a simple sketch, when after we allow the material to lead the process, letting the shoes evolve as we worked. We used an antiquated sewing machine from a shoemakers shop to create leather parts and handmade shoe lasts out of gypsum.
